City breaks in Chester are a great way to relax and lift the spirits. Chester has all the ingredients for a weekend break - shops, restaurants, cafés, fun and sightseeing, all in one handy-sized city! There's always something to see or do here - take a look at our virtual guide to What's On In Chester.
Chester has it all – a city centre on a manageable scale, with shops and eateries clustered around the Cross. Many are in the must-see mediaeval Rows – galleried shops and cafés dating back to the Middle Ages. And of course there's Chester Zoo, one of the world's best zoos and a centre for education and conservation, as well as home to hundreds of animals.
Chester dates back to Roman times, and the city walls built by the Romans are still intact, providing the ideal platform to see everything. In something over an hour you can walk all the way round the walls, with wonderful views across the River Dee and into North Wales. You’ll pass the Roodee racecourse, too – the only city centre racecourse in the country!
Retail therapists are spoiled for choice – there are department stores and specialist boutiques aplenty, and the Cheshire Oaks Designer Outlet Centre is just a couple of miles outside Chester (with cinema, bowling and food tagging along, too).
And best of all, it’s so easy to get a fix of real countryside – stay at Churton Heath Farm, just 15 minutes from the city centre, and you’re already in beautiful peaceful countryside. The Welsh Hills are just half an hour away, and Cheshire is packed full of historic houses and gardens.
Chester is easy to get to and easy to love – book now and have a city break to remember!
